BEAUTY & EDITORIAL MAKEUP
When I paint a face, it is a like natural form of church. The person sits in my beauty chair, we begin a significant journey. On the surface, it translates as gossipy laughter while I press upscale creams into the face. I like to begin with humor, because it is where I feel most of us feel safe. Invoking laughter can break down barriers like nothing else.
After the skin is prepped, the makeup brushes come out, and the coversation becomes more profound. Truth has revealed itself: in spirit, expression, posture, and facial construction. It is a neccesary step. The mask must be removed and this is when we truly see where beauty begins.
The client looks amazing when we resurface, and I feel as though I have a new family member.
Throughout my career, I have kept one rule: If you are born with it, let it be. Do not waste time trying to perfect the methods of a smoky eye, shading away your nose or embellishing a lip-line that does not exist; simply work with what is. An amazing blueprint has already been perfected by the Master Artist of our universe. To degrade what the mirror reflects is actually taking a backhand, not only to the one who 'fearfully and wonderfully' made us, but also to generations of loved ones.
The art of looking, without berrating ourselves over so-called imperfections, opens the door to true flawless beauty. Inconsistencies caused by time, stress, sun, free radicals, etc. can be counteracted with the aid of concealors, bronzers and highlighters. What remains is the projection of a Face, Uninterrupted.
The following series of images detail the journey from honest, bare faces to flawless beauty application and then color. The courageous men and women photographed are very diverse in age, coloring, lifestyle and skin routine. The only photo enhancing has been an occasional warming of the images so that each aspect of the face is more easily perceived; no dodge, blur or airbrush tools have been used at all.
I begin with Tara, who has been one of my most gorgeous constants in the industry. A former Chanel beaute analyst, beauty queen (she was Miss Tennessee in 2007) turned phenomenal actress/singer/child of God--there is no obstacle this girl cannot face...speaking of face; folks, seriously. I don't have to say another word, do I? Uninterrupted :)
Lindsey is my faithful assistant/counselor/teacher/sanity in this industry. I love her with all of my heart--and no one can deny how gorgeous she is; inside and out. Her features are so unique and captivating; I could spend hours on her cheeks alone.
